As usual, in a burst of enthusiasm, I promised...well, not anyone in particular, that I would have a good go at this blogging business and as usual I've avoided following through my earlier optimism.
Which is why, in another burst of positivity, I'm announcing to...well, not anyone in particular again, that I will be having another go at this blogging business.
Next post should be in three months time.

An Operatic Gripe...
Well, I see that I haven't quite kept to my very own short lived enthusiastic expectations of how often I would blog the inner workings of my mind...which is why in a fit of Early January New Year's Resolution Neglected Guilt Syndrome (EJNYRNGS) I'm sitting (or rather standing) by a keyboard willing a gem of observance to land on the screen before me...
I'm not holding out much hope of anything profound appearing any day soon so I'll ramble on about my latest gripes about opera going and tickets in general...Wien Staatsoper this one is for you!
Okay, I generally hold true to the thought that first come first served is generally fine by me - I mean, you make the effort to find something out, then you act on that information and if you're quick enough then you may be lucky enough to get what you want - this theory can be applied to most things in life. If I'd have thought about inventing the mobile phone first and acted on it then I would be a very rich man, but I didn't - and I can live with that. The same applies to substandard crap like the Spice Girls - if I'd thought of getting a group of tone deaf singers together then unleashing them on an equally tone deaf fan base then I would be a rich man right now, but I didn't and I can live with that.
What I can't live with is the fact that there are some opera houses out there - yes, the Wien Staatsoper - that, despite the fact they are always going to sell out their house for any performance refuse to accept the suggestion that they should hold one ticket in reserve for someone who would go there every night if they could, but can't as they don't live in the vicinity of Wien or Austria for that matter. Yes, the person of course is me. And I think that as I can live with the fact that I didn't invent the mobile phone, or that I didn't create music for idiots (apologies to friends who disagree with me about the Spice Girls) then I should be allowed one little ticket to the Staatsoper whenever I'm in town...once a decade...but I'm too afraid to say this to anyone in Wien Staatsoper, so if anyone would like to get a petition going for me to attend the May 4th performance of La Traviata then I would be most grateful - and I would let you in on a good idea that if acted upon would make you a very rich person indeed...

The First of Few
Good day to you all, or to none at all!
After spending many years laughing, scratching my head, falling asleep and avidly reading the efforts of committed bloggers I thought I'd try my hand at it myself and see what it is I can come up with...
Now, I haven't got a clue what it is I'll be talking about - sometimes it will be music, others it will be books and I'm sure the price of train travel in the UK will raise it's head on more than one occasion - but hopefully whatever I'll dredge up from my thoughts I hope they'll be of interest to someone...
Now for my first thought...it's Boxing Day and I'm looking forward to a day of eating and sleeping!
